The NBI Clearance Card is an automated citizen security clearance utilizing a smart card that contains the citizen’s photo and biometric information. The card marks the second phase of the bureau’s clearance renewal computerization program, which ACR I Card to hasten the clearance renewal process and decongest NBI offices.
The NBI card eliminates delays in getting a clearance especially those with criminal namesakes. Without this card individuals with namesakes will take up to 10 business-days to verify the applicant’s identity. The NBI has also deployed clearance issuance kiosks in shopping centres where initial feedback shows a drastic reduction of human traffic at NBI’s compound to 4,000 per day compared to 30,000 previously.
